German term

Entgratfall(s)

German to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering Gear cutting
Hello everyone,

I have a term here which I am not 100% sure about:

Im Auftragsfall sind für jeden Entgratfall zwingend der aktuelle Datensatz und die Werkstückzeichnung erforderlich.

I recon that this has to do with the amount of burr accumulating, but appreciate any suggestions

Thanks in advance

David Moore (X) May 16, 2013:
I don't see the connection... between merely "removing burrs", and the necessity of having the latest dataset and the drawings of the workpiece. I think this is much more likely to refer to the action of cutting the gears themselves, i.e., cutting the metal out to form the teeth. Okay, so this'll leave burrs, but it isn't to my mind the operation referred to here.

Apart from that, I support TDK's comments on Dict.cc. It sometimes gives good leads, but, like Linguee, it must be used with caution and some knowledge of the subject in question!
TDK (X) May 16, 2013:
@Steve: I agree with you regarding "Entgratungsfall". However, you should generally be very carefull about quoting dict.cc as a reference for anything. I you look into the process of deciding on new terms and vocabulary there, you'll realize that in most cases it's *non-professionals* (or better, sheer amateurs) who decide on what is listed as correct and what is not. In the past few years, I've discovered lots of terms at dict.cc where the translation was simply WRONG.

Dict.cc is definitely NOT the Oxford English Dicitionary, it's not even anywhere near that. It's simply convenient, but it should never be taken as a reference.

Instance of deburring

I think they mean "Entgratungsfall", i.e. each case in which deburring needs to be carried out.
