German to English Other Cooking / Culinary Arts

This is an ingredient in a recipe from a Russian cuisine cookbook written in German. Attempts to find this term in many bilingual dictionaries, monolingual dictionaries and on various internet search pages have only turned up two hits on Google, one of which is a page with this very same recipe on it. I believe I know what is meant - grilling spices - but as this is (almost) a dubious translation, i.e., do we use this term in English, I thought it a better idea to post it.
