Spanish banks offer clients the option to "devolver" direct debits, with a single click in many cases (mine - La Caixa - does at least). All the answers so far are on the right track, but more precisely it is "non-payments and rejected invoices" Returns can be confusing because you are not returning merchandise just refusing the debit/invoice
