Spanish term

brotado

Spanish to English Other Agriculture methodology for calculati

The only reference I find for "brotado" is "budding" which doesn't seem right in this instance.

Help is greatly appreciated.

Jorge Merino Mar 14, 2013:
¿De qué tipo de cultivo se trata?

nipping out

I worked in a cucumber (zucchini) greenhouse for a couple of summers when I was a student....to stunt the growth of the buds / shoots that were searching for light or a better anchorage (i.e. not necessary in controlled conditions, we're only interested in producing cucumbers not growing the plant). WE simply "nipped them off" between thumb and forefinger.
In the end you get a plant that spends its energy growing short and fat and producing cucumbers (not growing tall, skinny and with less cues.)

Of course this a complete guess....I'm sure there is a more formal name for nipping out (beheading?) and I'm not sure if that is what your text refers to....
Good luck.
