Spanish term

version doble

Spanish to English Art/Literary Cinema, Film, TV, Drama
A method of producing films for foreign-language markets which consists of shooting a film twice, once in each of two languages. I've found an 'explanatory' translation, viz. 'simultaneously shot foreign-language version', but would like to use something shorter.
Proposed translations (English)

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Jul 29, 2004:
Tavernier sounds like a good authority for 'double version' but he may have been influenced by his native French.
Non-ProZ.com Jul 27, 2004:
Version should of course read versin.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "'Dual version' is not specifically foreign language version. Nevertheless it's usable in the context because the whole article is about film translation. But I'll add 'simultaneously shot' at first mention. Thank you everybody."

Bertrand Tavernier: questions from the floor

Tuesday November 12, 2002

Q: Can you talk about the differences of making films in the French language and the English language?

BT: Of course when you shoot a film in a particular language, it is totally different. That's why I do not believe in the double version. You should not shoot your film where you do one shot in French and another in English. The scene should be written differently and shot differently, so I think that is a very bad idea because neither version will work.

Working in English is totally different to working in French.

agree Richard Benham : It's OK, but strikes me as less idiomatic than "dual version".

it is not a cuestion of being idiomatic, but getting it right. I think that dual already exists for technical aspects, like the presentation format for a film, widescreen and the sort, which also vary for different countries. Just trying to help.
