Spanish term

unidades de agarre

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Engineering (general)
This is actually used metaphorically in a text for an art show in Argentina:

Girando y girando, al interior del maelstrom. A vueltas sobre la incertidumbre que sentimos, y sobre nosotros mismos, en un recorrido por estaciones que, articulando varias escenas o unidades de agarre, sabotean la circulación general de imágenes flotantes con la que los gobiernos aspiran al control de la subjetividad, fijando el pasado en el presente y haciendo casi imposible imaginar un futuro mejor.

I am using "gripper units"...but sort of blindly...does that seem right to you who know about this sort of thing?
Many thanks

I think you're absolutely right about what the writer is getting at...life lines occurs to me, as something that holds people up, keeps them going, in the face of great danger

Agarre My sense is that it has something to do with people (nosotros) "holding fast" or "hanging onto something" in the "maelstrom". The text mentions "escenas" as well as "unidades" of "agarre," so perhaps by "unidades" they mean "instances"? Having said that, I also have no idea how I'd translate it.
"Gripper units" makes absolutely no sense to me in this context, but then again I'm no expert in this area.

Just a guess...

That is what I "see" from reading the context...

attention-grabbing units/items/elements

At first sight,I understand it to mean elements that catch the eye of the beholder/viewer, in that they stand out in some way from the rest.
Of course, I may be mistaken and that's not what it means at all. It would help if we could see the artwork in question.
