disagree Clare Macnamara : While the Oxford Superlex does give your option as a translation of "mala hierba ...", the New Oxf Dic of Eng explains your option as "success or good fortune often seems to come to those who least deserve it", which isn't the meaning of "mala hierba ..."

You are right that it can have more than one meaning, as any good proverb should. That is why I added extra proverbs just in case. ;~}

agree Will Matter : I agree with "Only the good die young" this is the only proverb that I can think of that applies here, everything else is less colloquial, less idiomatic.
