As I were a fool, I only waited that October 15th arrived because we ARRANGED that I would go to visit her in the middle of October

actually, I think it works fine. you'll notice other colleagues have used waited as well so I think it works. but thanks for your comment.

Thanks, I would use the Simple Past because it seems the person is describing a process in the past, not a finished action.
