Trados 2019, overwrite existing translation with TM match, if different... tracked if possible Thread poster: Samuel Murray

G'day everyone I had to do quite a large edit where the translation consisted of edited machine translations. I have no problem with that, except that if the translator is lazy (and he was), the edit step tends to be more comprehensive. So I preferred to do the editing in another program instead of inside Trados. What I would like to deliver to my client is a version of the file in which all changes are tracked. I currently have the corrected text available as a TM. ... See more G'day everyone I had to do quite a large edit where the translation consisted of edited machine translations. So I preferred to do the editing in another program instead of inside Trados. What I would like to deliver to my client is a version of the file in which all changes are tracked. I currently have the corrected text available as a TM. Is this possible in Trados 2019? In other words, can I use the TM so that if the current target text of any segment is different from the target text in the TM, then the current target text is replaced with the target text from the TM? And... is it possible for the edits to be tracked (and I don't mean the entire segment is shown as "deleted" and replaced)? Alternatively, is there a way to "compare" two SDLXLIFF files in the MS Word way, so that the differences show up as tracked changes? But it's risky, very risky, because Trados can refuse to import for any number of reasons. I suspect, in fact, Trados just gives random error messages based on the day of the week. Today's excuse for refusing to import the bilingual review: corrupted tags in segment such-and-such. Of course, there is no corruption of tags in said segment. In the end, I simply removed all existing target text within Trados and ran a pre-translate against the TM. The client didn't get a tracked file, but accepted my excuse ("lunar disturbances"). | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Trados 2019, overwrite existing translation with TM match, if different... tracked if possible Trados Studio 2022 Freelance | The leading translation software used by over 270,000 translators.
