今晚看的《夜宴》，是一部值得推荐的国产大片，有很多出乎意外的情节，同时看俊男美女主演的影片也是件赏心悦目的事。现在国产片的阵容丝毫不逊于好莱坞电影，如《Mr.& Mrs. Smith》并不比它强多少。影片的高潮，是举行盛宴的部份，厉旁自饮剩余的毒酒，其作为有点不符合逻辑，这么暴谑的君皇也会良心发现，未免有点牵强。影片结束时章子怡后面“嗖”地一声不知从哪儿直插其后背的一把刀，也很出乎意外，在观众还在捉摸哪个是凶手，等待他/她出现时，THE END出现。影片结尾章子怡之死寓义深刻，意味深长。
章子怡在电影中演技渐增，难怪现在是好莱坞的当红炸子鸡，在国外很受欢迎，是陈冲那个时代的明星不能比拟的事，也可说是为华人增了光。

Most of the Chinese films released over here in recent years have Zhang Ziyi in them: "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", "Hero", "House of Flying Daggers", and "Memoirs of a Geisha", which I've all seen and have in DVD, BTW. I agree that Zhang's professional growth is evident in these films. One of her movies that I liked the best was "The Road Home". It wasn't released with much fanfare, yet it was my favorite mainly because of its simple and touching subject matter. The emotions were subtle and realistic; the music, hauntingly beautiful.

I like it that she seems to be grounded, and didn't let fame go to her head.
I also understand what she means by the challenge of crossing over a different culture and entering mainstream in a different society. It's not easy to do, even with her world acclaimed stardom, her wonderful talent, and superb artistry.
IMO, an Asian American actress like Sandra Oh (who currently plays a role in "Grey's Anatomy") would have a better chance of becoming a household name, mainly due to cultural differences. In addition, physical beauty and acting talent are not the only determining factors that lead to success in Hollywood. There are many other things at play. Frankly, I'm still wondering how Phillip Seymour Hoffman got best actor at the last Academy Awards for his title role performance in "Capote"

wherestip, you have all seen "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", "Hero", "House of Flying Daggers", and "Memoirs of a Geisha", which exceed my imagination, frankly speaking, none of them I have seen, sometimes I select a few. Someone said "Hero" is also better, its plot is similar to 夜宴 after watched the film.
Chineses gongfu movies are popular, go to cinema, not DVD, the effectiveness of drama is fulfilled thoroughtly.

Wherestip, although the Pacific Ocean actually separates China from US, it seems no movies leave out your visibility, Gong Li’s performance in 《摇到外婆桥》is better. Her《秋菊打官司》, I think I would be bored by watching it, the countryside life.

艺妓回忆录還未想看，但不是『反日』問題。巩俐 在『秋菊打官司』中演技平平，但故事很好，看完真想吃辣，痛快一下。

《东京审判》是与日相关的主旋律电影，现已上画，不过看这类片子心情会深重，无娱乐可言，曾志伟参与拍这么严肃的电影有点搞笑。现在的电影是全球同步放映，时间先后差不了多少。

這星期，《霍元甲》才在波士頓上演，但是年前已看過DVD，看來不可能在這裡的電影院看到《东京审判》，等有DVD才看。最近參加了DVD會，10元一個月，在網上選電影，看完便寄回去，另選下一個DVD，郵寄往來很方便。不知在中國有沒有這種生意。

Here's a sentimental film in a style similar to Zhang Yi-mou's. I picked up the DVD at the store by chance a couple of years ago because it was prominently displayed.
With almost no dialog to speak of, it turned out to be a real tear jerker. I agree with most of the cutomers' reviews: excellent film.

I wasted my time watching "Gangs of New York" last night only to have it blown out of the water by this simple, undoubtedly cheap to make, film. With all the money Hollywood has at its disposal, it can't make movies as good as those made with a good idea and a little inspired effort.
I'm a proud "redneck" from South Carolina, who has never seen a foreign film before.
I got forced into seeing this one, and doggoneit, I slowly realized how much I'd be forcing myself to not bawl out crying in front of everyone.
This movie has affected me more than anything i've ever seen. I wanted to clothesline that little kid so bad at points in the movie. But the ending, I couldn't take it, and everyone had to give me a hug because I was crying so bad.
Afterward, I saw an oriental person at the Walmart and I went up and hugged him.

Actually, I've only watched the Chinese movies that were released over here. Even so, over the years they add up quite a bit.
Therefore I've seen "Ju Dou", 《秋菊打官司》, "Farewell My Concubine", "To Live" "Shanghai Triad", etc., but not 《摇到外婆桥》. As you can see, Gong Li is quite well-received over here as she stars in all these movies.
To my knowledge, the first Chinese film shown here after China opened up was "Yellow Earth". I was a little disappointed then because of the movie's slow pace (not much improvement from the old days ) However I thought the story was very realistic for its vivid depiction of rural life in the harsh environment of Northern Shensi. According to the reviews in this link, the cinematography was done by Zhang Yimou.

网上参加那些互联星空，随便看，可我从没在网上下过电影，对着电脑屏幕看。有时间也是选明珠台9:30的电影看，那儿偶然会遇到好看的片子，他们那些中文翻译挺好，有时使用一些很通俗、逗趣的白话，好cute。
10月张艺谋的《黄金甲》上映，场面浩大，还是上影院走一遭，享受杜比数码七声道环回立体声的震憾效果，看DVD可没这些效果。

Hi wherestip, Zhang is of course a rising star. However, nowadays, a star means a well packaged product. Everything you say or wear or even when you say it or when you wear something is attentively taken care of to serve a particular end.
In real life, Zhang sometimes is quite snobbish, at least that's what I heard. She is smart and evidently born with the amazing natural talent of sizing people up. I wouldn't go as far as to use the word prey or predator, but you get the idea.
The entertainment industry is one hell of jungle. Though an actress is often unjustifiably mistaken for a courtesan, I am sure we all know what's going on out there. Numerous young talents with the face of an angel and curcaceous body of Marilyn Monroe are lurking somewhere every single day to ensnare the producer, the director and whatnots with their net of infatuation. Naturally everybody is constantly watching over his/her own shoulder.
As for movies, personally I prefer 喜筵 and 推手. Remarkable piece.

Oops, my mistake. "Shanghai Triad" and 《摇到外婆桥》 are one and the same. Without googling it's impossible to figure these things out. Sorry to say that movie and "Temptress Moon" were not my favorites. I guess subject matter counts to some extent when it comes to my likes and dislikes
"Beijing Bicycle" was an interesting movie for me, as it provided a glimpse into modern-day life in Beijing. The skyline of the city has definitely changed. But more surprising to me was the shift in social mores and attitudes, evident from the storyline.
