Drill collars are used to apply weight to the bit which decreases with increased inclination. Their large wall thickness gives them a greater resistance to buckling than DP. In vertical, or near vertical, wells the neutral point should be located at the top of the drill collars section and 75 to 85% (maximum) of the drill collars section which should be under compression (this will include HWDP if utilized). The neutral point should never be in the DP section unless the inclination of the well requires it. In deviated wells the neutral point may be in the HWDP and in highly deviated, or horizontal, wells it may be in the drill pipe.
The lower part of the drill collar section is under compression, therefore subject to buckling. This generates high stresses and potential fatigue failure, particularly at the connections.
The clearance between drill collars and the well bore is smaller than with DP, therefore increasing the possibility of differential sticking. If it is thought to be a potential problem, spiral drill collars can be used to reduce the contact area with the well bore and consequently the chance of differential sticking.
In deviated holes, to avoid sticking of the drilling assembly, the minimum number of drill collars should be used (and these should be of the spiral type). Heavy Weight Drill Pipe in conjunction with under gauge stabilizers, should be used to substitute the drill collar weight

3.1 Waste Management Priority
Since the waste treatment technologies are limited and expensive; and the landfills that are used for adequate waste disposal have limited life cycles, besides being possible sources of environmental pollution, a priority order has been pointed out: non generation, reduction, re-use, recycling, waste treatment and final environmentally adequate disposal of the waste.
This priority order gives a preventive focus to the waste management, i.e. it is preferable to eliminate the problem at its source than to use complex and expensive technologies for its treatment. This approach involves both the reduction of generated waste and its toxicity. In this manner, it is possible to reduce costs with the control and treatment of waste, reduce environmental risks and increase the productivity with the improvement of the system performance.
3.1.1 Reduction
The reduction of waste can be achieved through good operational practices and systems’ performance improvement. In this phase, the required financial investments are not high and the implementation could be easily performed.
3.1.2 Re-Use
The re-use is the waste reutilization without biological, physical and/or chemical processing. The waste can be used with the same previous function or with another one. Whenever possible, the re-use should be preferred to recycling, since it does not require new technologies or energy consumption.
3.1.3 Recycling
It is a process that changes the physical, chemical and/or biological properties of the waste into raw material for new products. Recently this process has gained much prominence as a treatment method for solid waste since it preserves the natural and energy resources and increases the landfills lifespan. However, it should be used only for non-hazardous waste.
When choosing the method of treatment and final disposal of waste it is necessary to consider the waste management hierarchy presented before. It is recommended to give priority to the prevention and reduction measures, as well as, re-use and recycling. After exhausting these possibilities, it is important to assess the waste treatment that is environmentally friendly. Disposal in landfills must be the last option.

Ao escolher o método de tratamento e despejo final do lixo é preciso considerar a hierarquia de gerenciamento do lixo apresentada acima. É recomendável dar prioridade às medidas de prevenção e redução, assim como, de reuso e reciclagem. Uma vez esgotadas todas as possibilidades, é importante determinar o tratamento de resíduos que seja propício ao meio ambiente. Despejo em aterros devem ser a última opção.

No ano passado, nossa Equipe de Segurança e Saúde contratou uma empresa externa de segurança com intuito a conduzir uma avaliação com a participação de todos os nossos funcionários para obter feedback e sugestões com relação à nossa Cultura de Segurança.
Estamos orgulhosos em anunciar que todos demonstraram verdadeiro comprometimento com a segurança, a julgar-se pelo resultado de 81% em participação nesta pesquisa.
A AAAA, empresa de consultoria em segurança, nos informou que este resultado corresponde ao maior nível de participação já obtido por eles na condução de suas pesquisas.
No entanto, não estamos surpresos com a alta porcentagem de participação de nossos (funcionários) membros da nossa equipe. Vocês provaram a nós todos os dias, por seu entusiasmo e atenção às Metas, que são uma equipe dedicada que está comprometida a garantir a segurança dos membros de seus colegas. Parabéns a todos por sua participação neste importante projeto.

Last fall, the Health and Safety Team hired an external safety company to conduct a survey with all our team members to obtain feedback and suggestions regarding our Safety Culture.
We are very proud to announce that you all have shown a real commitment to safety through the 81% response participation in this survey.
The safety consulting company, AAAA, told us that this response rate is the highest participation level that they have ever seen in their time conducting this survey.
However, we are not surprised by the high rate of participation by our team members. You show us every day, by your enthusiasm and commitment to the Aims, that you are a very dedicated team that is committed to the safety and security of your team mates. Congratulations to all of you for your participation in this important project.
The objective of the survey was to take a critical look at our current safety culture and identify our strengths, and, more importantly, identify areas that require action. The results of the survey were subdivided into 5 key indicators: People, Culture, System and Processes, Delivery, and Sustainability. We scored lowest on People and Culture. We scored highest on System and Processes.
The assessment results confirmed that systems and processes are currently in place to ensure strong safety performance within XXX. The overall safety culture, however, shows room for improvement and a significant level of respondents expressed that they feel production takes precedence over safety.
Additionally, results confirmed our team members are hesitant to stop work when they perceive a safety risk. A culture where team members are hesitant to speak up contrasts with our desired safety culture where supervisors actively demonstrate safety, provide constructive feedback, and encourage their people to truly believe in safety for themselves and their team members.
These results indicate that we, as an organization, have some work to do. Work has already started with the Senior Management Team (SMT) to help clarify our safety vision which will help guide all of us in our work. However, there is a lot of work to do and change will not occur overnight, but together we can all work towards making safe choices and work together to improve our safety culture.
The Health and Safety Team, along with me appreciate your suggestions for improvement and commit to you continue improvement in this area. Thank you all for your assistance with and dedication to our safety goals.
