Is there a way to extract the source text only from uncleaned version?

Hi all,

I do have an uncleaned version of a document translated. However , I forgot to save the original source document and started working on it with Wordfast (I know it's dumb, but it totally forgot about it). So now, I do need the source document (which, of course, I produced from pdf with Fine Reader - so it was time-consuming). Any hope for me?

Hi Emilija,

I'm not sure this system can work with Wordfast (which I guess is a little different from Trados), but it's worth a try:

1. Open your uncleaned file
2. Go to Tools>Options
3. Deselect the Hidden text and All options
4. Click OK
5. Edit>Select all
6. Copy and paste to NotePad
7. Select all text in the NotePad and copy it back to a new (Word) document

Hi Emilija,

Towards the end of the Wordfast manual, there's a section called "Back to Source". Here is what is says:

Q: Whoops! My documents have been pretranslated, and I don't have access to the originals. But now I would like to have the originals back, unsegmented. Apparently, it takes a lot of successive Find-Replace passes to un-segment documents...

A: Quite the contrary. It takes only one FR pass to do that.

Find what     (\{\0\>)(*)(\<\})(*)(\{\>)(*)(\<\0\})
Replace with     \2
     Use Wildcards
     Set the replacement font format to "not hidden" (check, then uncheck, the "Hidden" checkbox).

The only limitation is, make sure source segments do not contain hidden text. But they rarely do.

although in this sequence:

Find
Replace
Use Wildcards

ONLY after FR is done, Select All, Format, Font, and in Effects uncheck Hidden. And Voila!

p.s. When I tried to do it as in the manual, it blocked my Word.
