late/modern scholars

Other options:
- scholars of later period

--------------------------------------------------

- scholars that came afterwards
etc.

It has nothing to do with Hadith.

Although 'neo-scholars' may sound tempting, it cannot be used here for generalization and non-conventionality problems.

I highly recommend 'modern scholars' as it already covers the notion of 'innovation'.

disagree  Ala Rabie: i'm afraid it's irrelevant here, alexander; based on the context, the term in hand is 'محدَثين' as in 'حديث' [='modern'], and not 'رواة الحديث'. the contrast between 'سلف' and 'محدث' entails the same thing.

Scholars of Hadith

Explanation:

I thought that the talk is about the narrators of Hadith but the comment of enshrine made my change my mind.

The actual meaning should be Scholars of Hadith and the following links support my claim:

http://www.islamway.com/?iw_s=Scholar&iw_a=series&series_id=...

Notice the names mentioned are البخاري، مسلم، النسائي and many more. Those are scholars of Hadith not narrators.

disagree  Ala Rabie: duraid, it has nothing to do with Hadith. it is a simple 'سلف/قدماء' against 'محدثون/مجددون/جدد' binary. [apologies for typos]
