السـكينة
Pronounced ASSAKEENA
SAKEENA is the word without the definite prefix.
This word is used twice in Al-Qur'an, both instances in Soorat Al-Fat-h:
Aya 4:
هو الذي انزل السكينة في قلوب المؤمنين ليزدادوا ايمانا مع ايمانهم ولله جنود السماوات والارض وكان الله عليما حكيما
Aya 18:
لقد رضي الله عن المؤمنين اذ يبايعونك تحت الشجرة فعلم ما في قلوبهم فانزل السكينة عليهم واثابهم فتحا قريبا
The word bears an unmistakable resemblance to the Old Testament word SHAKINA, which carries two meanings simultaneously:
1. The indwelling of God's glory (later to become the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, in the Christian tradition)
2. The inner peace (literally, cessation of agitation) that accompanies the indwelling.
