Ahoy, the *dugong*, a mermaid of legend.
Vorher war die Rede von einer Perlentaucherin. Da sehe ich den Zusammenhang zu einer Mermaid schon. Aber eine Seekuh im Zusammenhang mit einer Meerjungfrau, ich weiß nicht. Ist dugong wirklich eine Seekuh.

Das Stück spielt im 19. Jahrhundert.

Vielen Dank. Nach genauerem Hinsehen, war der Zusammenhang dann auch klar. Hierbei handelt es sich um die Übersetzung eines Drehbuches für ein Kindervideo und so ganz ohne Angabe eines Szenenwechsels stellt man dann leicht falsche Sinnzusammenhänge her.

dugong gehört zu den "sirenia" und auch die amerikanischen Manatees, wahrscheinlich beides in dtsch. Seekuh, oder gibt es da Unterschiede?

Explanation:
between mermaids and dugongs, at least in the old legends, and the dugongs may have been the origin of the mermaid stories. But Seekuh is really un romantic in German, so I suggest you use dugongs in apostrophes.
