Italian term

valorizzate dalla conoscenza e dalle tecnologie di oggi

Non-PRO Italian to English Other Other
"rispettiamo le tradizioni che vengono valorizzate dalla conoscenza e dalle tecnologie di oggi".
questa è la frase intera. si parla di un'azienda agricola che utilizza dei processi "artigianali" per la lavorazione dei suoi prodotti ma non disdegna le più moderne tecnologie (pur continuando a rispettare le tradizioni).
qualche idea?
grazie!

Discussion

James (Jim) Davis Feb 18, 2009:
Valorizzare: the new word of the new millenium I can't remember this word appearing at all ten years ago, now it seems to come up every other line and it has no direct synonym in English. Improve, increase, enhance, value. Sometimes it just means to put a figure in a field on a computer screen. In one translation, when I asked the author what the "underlying meaning" was I was told it was to give more weight to one type of loan than to other types of loans in the equation for calculating the capital ratios of banks. The standard term used in the translation industry is zappy "enhanced" which I generally try to avoid because it is so cliched, but of course there are places where it is the right word.
One thing is for certain, it is becoming so hackneyed Italian teachers in schools would do well to ban it along with "fare".
However, I feel that it certainly demands creativity to translate it.

assessed with today's know-how and technology

or "with the know-how and technology of today", or with "knowledge" instead of "know-how", but it makes little difference in the context.
