When using PowerPoint, FrameMaker, Quark, etc. (especially in combination with Trados) I often get the message that fonts are missing. In some cases, such as in PowerPoint, I am then no longer able to process the document in Trados.

Where do I get these fonts? Can you download/buy fonts from somewhere?

Would be appreciative of any tips.

Replace non existing fonts (on your PC) with existing ones Jun 7, 2002

You can do this in most programs, such as Powerpoint. If you work with TRADOS and you don´t get all fonts on your PC which are used in Powerpoint, you are not able to translate.

Go to FORMAT and REPLACE FONTS (or something similar, as I´m using german version and don´t know the exact english name). Then you´ll be shown missing fonts and replacement proposals. The defaults are mostyl OK, but sometimes you need to modify them. If you don´t know what kind of font you should use, then keep the default values. After replacing fonts you are able to translate the document.

The other way is to ask your customer for the specific font, as many of them use their own fonts (for example ThyssenKrupp is doing so), so you wan´t be able to obtain these fonts elswhere. And nobody can force you to have all fonts, so sometimes it is necessary to replace them.

Within Pagemaker or Framemaker you´ll be asked if you want to replace missing fonts. You can take defaults and choose \"Temporary replace\". It affects not the original settings, so you are able to process the document, and your customer gets a document as it was, because he has the necessary fonts.
