OK... So we remove the rechargeable battery from the charger. What is the role of the "getrennt" and how does the whole phrase add up to a safety instruction? I do not know what to make of it... :(

It's more a guess, though. Without more context I would interprete it as the battery can be charged while still connected to the gadget, and that you shouldn't take out the battery while doing so. Mobile phones would be an example for this.
