"Was halten Sie von der Idee, die herkömmliche Querträgersysteme durch System XYZ zu ersetzen?"
This is from a market research discussion guide aimed at car designers. The sentence in question refers to the cockpit and how it is integrated. (I would prefer to say more, but everything else is confidential)
Can anyone tell me the best term for "Querträgersystem" in this context (and UK English, please). "Cross member system" springs to mind, but it doesn't google well.
Many thanks
Ian

Hello Ian, I have used crossbar/cross rail for "Querträger" in the past. Perhaps you can google for these terms and see if they fit your context.

crossmember mounted
presumably refers to cockpit components (or really dashborad) being mounted to a crossmember (running between both A-posts?). But what is so unusual about it?

Straight "crossmember system" translation means nothing here. You would need a number of crossmembers to be able to talk about a "crossmember system".
If anything, "a crossmember-mounting system" will be what you are after.
