French term

bon pour caution solidaire

French to English Bus/Financial Finance (general) Banking
in a bank training manual that describes different ways of limiting the lending risk, including suretyship (cautionnement) where the surety has to sign "bon pour caution solidaire" to bind him into the contract as well.

What's wrong with you people lately? Would it really hurt to provide some context?

Just to explain what it is and to support gad's answer.

thanks
neutral writeaway : bon pour means 'good for' and it's standard phrase in certain docs to indicate approval and is followed by signature. nothing to do with a bond

neutral writeaway : bon pour just means 'good for' &" effect, if the document you signed states that you are the “joint surety” (caution solidaire),the creditor may solicit payment from you directly without http://www.notaires.fr/notaires/notaires.nsf/V_TC_PUB/SMSD-5...

thank you for the additional reference!
agree Nikki Scott-Despaigne : Acting as guarantor or co-guarantor generally implies liability is joitn and several, but here best to specify. Implications have to be clear.

hereby accept to act as guarantor and understand that liability is joint and several

If you sign a document confirming that you agree to be « caution solidaire » then the lender can ask either the borrower or his guarantor to pay all or part of the sums due.
Liability is joint and several.

The great thing with this one from the lender’s point of view is that if the borrower does not pay, he simply turns to the guarantor “solidaire” to recover his money. Much less hassle than having a “caution simple”, see below.

Note that in the case of a “caution simple” the lender can be required to have exhausted all other available remedies before seeking to have the guarantor pay up in the place of the borrower.

http://www.scfpatrimoine.fr/glossaire-C-defiscalisation-immo...

Can be translated as « collective guarantee, joint liability group, group guarantee, peer group lending », (cf. microfinancement.cirad.fr/fr/bao/pdf/glosan_fr_v3.pdf ).

Here I would suggest,

“I hereby accept to act as guarantor and understand that liability is joint and several” followed by signature.

The “bon” / “bond” thing is a non-runner.

Sylvia's suggestion is shorter and if space is limited...
