English term (edited): numeracy

Robert + Collins suggest this as one option, and I think the use of 'notions' is appropriate for the very basic level at which this would undoubtedly be; scarcely appropriate to talk here of 'mathématique'!

Also has the advantage of being fairly short!

I agree with the general principle that 'alphabétisation' sounds to EN ears as if it is exclusively 'literacy', but I remain convinced that in this particular context, the 'literacy/numeracy' doublet is being used in the ame overall way as 'alphabétisation' in FR. There is no specific distinction being made between the two skill areas (it's not as if, for example, one group of people were to be taught literacy, and another, numeracy), nor is there I think any implication that (for example) any of the beneficiaries of this training might have good literacy skills, but just need to brush up their numeracy... You see what I mean? — the two words just go together like 'bread-and-butter' or 'black-and-white'.

Of course, in certain other contexts, discussing the topic in greater detail, the distinction might be more significant! But here, you have quite a long list to deal with, and I think it is merely counter-productive to lengthen it clumsily. Perhaps you will have the opportunity to expand on the topic more appropriately elsewhere in your document?

This definition from Wikipedia seems to sum up the general view as to the inclusion of 'numeracy' within 'alphabétisation':

"L'alphabétisation est un cycle d'apprentissage continu conduisant l'analphabète (personne qui ne sait ni lire ni écrire) à l'acquisition de la lecture, l'écriture, le calcul ; d'une manière générale, la culture écrite, dans le but d'acquérir une certaine autonomie, afin de mieux prendre place dans la société de culture écrite."
