Yes, I like 'negligible', as in not to be taken lightly. A good suggestion. Along the lines of 'should not be omitted / taken for granted' etc..

I've been toying with all sorts of fanciful suggestions but I can't be sure about any of them. I wondered about 'negligible' as in 'the choice of applicable law was not a negligible one, since the Defendant...'. Or maybe 'was given careful consideration'.

I was thinking along the lines of 'ignored' or 'disregarded', which fits my context. Yes, it's very formal text.
