I know that the equivalent of the French "Maîtrise" is "a Master's Degree" in English, however in France "un Master" corresponds to 5 years' studies and I do not know the equivalent in English.
Thank you for your help.

master's in science and technology for research
It used to be called a maîtrise, but is now a master's as a result of international standardisation.
"In France and many countries which follow the French model (like the Francophone regions in Switzerland,Belgium, Lebanon, Algeria,Morocco, Tunisia) a traditional diploma was the maîtrise (which translates literally as "Master's qualification") after 4 years of studies for which the licence degree - 3 years of studies - is required. This diploma becomes the first year of the Master's program, often referred to as M1. Because of this change, legal texts specifying a maîtrise (for instance, those defining the conditions for the external agrégation) had to be amended

Master (Research) in Science and Technology
I've done a lot of translation for various French universities, and have obviously checked my translation against degres, etc, i English universities.
This seems to be the most common way of translating this particumar degree. The other type of Master's is a 'Taught' Master).
