French term or phrase: forêt soumise au régime forestier
"forêt soumise au régime forestier" in Belgium and Luxembourg, as opposed to private forests (where anything goes!) - Is this "forest under tenure", "forest governed by the government forest code", or something else? Urgent help needed! EU sources translate régime forestier as "forest regime" (sic!!), North American sources give "forest(ry) tenure", but no "forêt soumise" (a common expression in the Benelux). TIA

managed production forest

Explanation:
Whom it is managed by is another issue.

"Under a forestry regime" usually means there is some production felling, some areas undergoing silviculture (thinning, pruning,) and there are often reserves in modern times as part of that regime, often native forests or ancient stands are in a reserve within a production forest.

I would translate "régime forestier" on its own in this context as "Forest Management". But the whole phrase demands something more subtle. You could say "under forest management" or even the dreadfully jargonesque "under a forest management system".

That sounds pretty good. Precise and yet ambiguous. :-)

Notes to answerer
Asker: I'm not sure, as they are not necessarily production forests. What about forest reserves, etc.?

Asker: Thanks! I think specifying "regional" will be necessary: "subject to regional forest management policy" - dreadfully legalese, but so is the French!

Asker: Thanks, Liz! Here's an article that explains what the "régime forestier" is all about: http://portail.fncofor.fr/detail.do?idRubrique=27&noArticle=1045 It looks like "state/French/Belgian/federal/etc. forest management policy" would do the trick, depending on the context. Gabrielle
