Interpreto que “stay on cue”, en este contexto, significa "estar de acuerdo", y que "everybody", se refiere al "grupo", no a una circunstancia. En consecuencia, mi propuesta es:

I had only heard of "on cue" in reference to acting (for example, crying on cue), but found a reference in a sports context where it may be equivalent to "staying the course".
