Angela, thanks for that comment. Translating "image kystique" as "a cystic appearance" makes a lot of sense.

hi Douglas (and Andreas) - the "lèvre latérale" is knotty and I don't have time to look into it, but "image kystique" is something I see quite often and would correspond to "cystic appearance"

Image kystique Image kystique seems to be used a lot in French, I think it means that an image produced by CT Scan or MRI shows the presence of a cyst.

'Image kystique' doesn't make a lot of sense to me either. How can an image be cystic? The lips bordering the hilum are a rather specific and precisely demarcated part of the kidney, which, being hilar, are medial structures, not lateral.

lips should be anterior/posterior not lateral The hilum of the kidney is bounded by thick lips of renal substance, but they are anterior and posterior rather than lateral. Is there an error in the text?

problem is I have found absolutely nothing in French with "lévre latérale du rein droit"...and I note you have stated yourself that there are posterior and anterior "levres", not lateral ones!. and of the hilium

Whether truly rotation occurs in the sense of involving twisting of kidney around it's longitudinal axis or is a case of differential growth of the lateral lip of the hilum (Priman J.1929) is not known.
