No real expertise but it sounds a bit more interactive than redirect or forwarding to me.

Possibly they set up a range of menu options on their voice mail, and the caller uses the keypad to select them?

neutral  Trudy Peters: I guess it depends on whether the Anrufer does the "nachwähling" or whether the Nachwahlfunktion is there so the Anrufer gets through to the person without doing anything.

agree  stiller: yes, this is what Nachwahl means: After you have dialled and your call was put through, the system will still react on further keypad entries (I'd say after years in the telecom biz)
