Non-PRO English to Spanish Medical Medical: Pharmaceuticals Transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR amyloidosis)

When the peripheral and autonomic nerves are predominantly affected the disease is sometimes referred to as familial amyloid polyneuropathy (FAP), whereas deposition in the heart gives rise to cardiomyopathy referred to as familial amyloid cardiomyopathy (FAC).

Transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR amyloidosis) is caused by the misfolding and subsequent deposition of mutant and wild type transthyretin (TTR) in multiple tissues, including the peripheral nervous system, gastrointestinal tract and heart.

The non‑hereditary form of ATTR amyloidosis referred to as senile systemic amyloidosis or wild‑type ATTR amyloidosis (WT‑ATTR) is caused by the deposition of wild‑type TTR primarily in the heart.

Hay algo que se llama contexto. Como ya hemos dicho, pero lo vuelvo a repetir:

- La palabra "depósito" designa la acción y el efecto de depositarse.
- El término usual en medicina para designar las enfermedades que se producen cuando una sustancia se deposita en un tejido es "depósito". Es decir, al expresión consagrada es "enfermedad por depósito" (372 páginas en Google académico), y no "enfermedad por deposición" (2 páginas en Google académico).

Que en otros campos se usa la palabra "deposición", no hay duda (por ejemplo, deposición electrolítica), pero personalmente, prefiero atenerme siempre al contexto de cada traducción.

Y con esto doy por cerrada mi participación en esta consulta; me parece que ya estamos empezando a perder el tiempo.

Explanation:
Esto es lo que yo hubiese dicho sin contexto. Ahora bien, me parece que este sintagma ya está "ocupado", es decir, lo que describe tu frase no corresponde al método de formación de películas que se conoce como deposición por evaporación térmica o simplemente deposición por evaporación. Mirá, por ejemplo, este libro:

Por eso, pienso que en este caso diría simplemente "...y no una película formada por evaporación del (di)solvente de una solución."

Well, apparently not, that's my point, there are many scientists who are very, very happy to use a calque or (run for the hills, take cover the English are coming) a neologism (shock horrror, fear) because they know that communicating the science is more important than following the DRAE (which is far from a complete glossary of every term in Spanish).

Mónica, at the fear of repeating myself, as the term is already used by hispanophones in this context there is clearly precedence and evidence that "deposición" would not be confused by the audience for "evacuar el vientre".

Las enfermedades por depósito se han llamado siempre así, y no enfermedades por deposición.

The trouble with 'deposición' in particular is that it means 'acción de evacuar el vientre', so, in the biology jargon, it would be misleading, I'm afraid. : (

In my opinion Fliguera.... the people who actually use the terms on a daily basis and create the context of such usage are the scientists who need to communicate complex ideas to each other and not pedantic linguists who for some reason desperately try to avoid that a language evolves to reflect current trends. How many examples of "mal uso" does it require for a word to become the norm and accepted in the DRAE; was "carro" simply accepted in the DRAE as an alternative for "coche" from day one or did it require time for the usage to become accepted? I imagine it was used in S. America for many years before the DRAE accepted it.

En mi opinión, Niel,... ...tus ejemplos lo único que demuestran es que siempre es posible encontrar ejemplos de mal uso del castellano. Para mí es evidente la diferencia que hay entre los términos "depósito" y "deposición".

Mónica Indeed it would be very unfortunate if a (particularly bad) translator were to make such a mistake but I also think it would be very unfortunate and misleading to compare such a translator-created error with terms initially used by those working, reading and writing in the specialised subject area.
That's exactly my point, they're not translators but hispanophones working in the field and using the terms on a regular basis:

These no doubt gifted physicists translated "nut" as "nuez" in technical manuals, and now many people follow their example and say "nueces" instead of "tuercas"! : (

I always tend to put a lot weight in the examples of usage from the people who actually use the term in the given context on a regular basis and who will probably be the audience as well.

Cuidado con los "falsos amigos" Según la R.A.E. "deposición" es un "falso amigo" y no sería lingüísticamente apropiado, por más que aparezca por error en textos médicos.
