The author refers repeatedly to "originar, originación..." of funds, but the cognate yields few hits on the Internet. Is this really originate (funds)?
Is there some investment fund lingo I am missing?

If you Google "loans originated" you will get 787,000 hits, and "loan origination" will get you 1.75 million, which should be enough for anyone. It is these two words that go together. The source did not make it clear it was referring to loans made, but assumed the use of "originar" was sufficient indication as to the nature of the transactions.
Loan origination is the process by which a borrower applies for a new loan, and a lender processes that application. Origination generally includes all the steps from taking a loan application up to disbursal of funds (or declining the application). For mortgages, there is a specific mortgage origination process.
