German term

Harzküche

German to English Tech/Engineering Forestry / Wood / Timber
This is part of a text that describes processes in a wood processing plant

Die Kunstharze werden in der Harzküche aufbereitet.

I’m pretty sure "resin kitchen" is not the right translation. However, the term should include the word resin.
Proposed translations (English)
4 +3 resin manufacturing unit // resin production plant

Discussion

Barbara Schmidt, M.A. (X) Feb 25, 2022:
The facility, of course, is a 'one size fits all' solution that will always be okay.
Barbara Schmidt, M.A. (X) Feb 25, 2022:
If it really is a separate, closed-off space, then you might wish to call it a 'chamber' instead of a room.
resin manufacturing chamber
or
resin processing chamber
or whatever
Barbara Schmidt, M.A. (X) Feb 24, 2022:
Resin production facility or area sounds okay to me.
Is it actually a room? Do you know this for a fact? A "Harzküche" might easily be a resin production area, and not necessarily closed off from the rest.
A unit is not necesarily a single machine. It can be a section of a plant or whatever.
Brent Sørensen (asker) Feb 24, 2022:
Thanks for the input Phil and Barbara
The term appears several time in the text, so I need something relative concise.

Resin […] plant is in the right direction.

However, I tend to think of a “plant” as something quite large (like a power plant) that can be divided into many buildings, rooms etc...

Resin […] unit also isn’t bad.

However, I tend to think of a “unit” as a single machine or device.

In this context, a “Harzküche” falls in between a “plant” and a “unit”.

It’s part of the woodworking plant and contains several units for producing resin. It’s a room or area where resin is produced.

At the moment, I’m leaning towards “resin facility”. Perhaps “resin production area” or “resin production room” would also work.
philgoddard Feb 24, 2022:
You could say something like "synthetic resin is produced in a separate area of the factory". That avoids creating a circular statement as Barbara has done.
Barbara Schmidt, M.A. (X) Feb 24, 2022:
Dear Phil, I beg to disagree.

Kunstharz is synthetic resin.
Epoxy resin is Epoxidharz.

Just so we get this clear.

philgoddard Feb 24, 2022:
I would research what process takes place there, and then make up my own name. There is no hard-and-fast answer to questions like this.

agree writeaway : Seems to be backed by your reference and explanations. I don't see how anyone can suggest just making up a name

neutral philgoddard : Writeaway/David: Barbara has made up some perfectly valid names. The trouble is they don't work in the context - "Resin is produced in the resin production unit". The German isn't a circular statement, but Barbara's English versions are.

Phil, are you okay? I certainly haven't made anything up.
