Portuguese term

vagas

Portuguese to English Social Sciences Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc.
I need to get a better dictionary! I only find "places" and "wave/swell" as definitions for this word. My context seems to imply that the meaning is "means" but I don't find dictionary support for this. Help?

"Muitas activistas não frequentarem o ensino superior por falta de vagas."

agree Deborah do Carmo : The plural sounds better on my UK ear, but certainly correct

Thank you, Debbie. Since we are talking of "lack of vacancy", the singular sounds better to me. If you lack one, you've lacked it.
