Esqueça o "bucket" (balde) - que seria no caso "pedaços, períodos, fatias". Não dá para traduzir, e é uma monstruosidade mesmo em inglês - ninguém fala assim.

Alguns calendários exibem manchas (neste caso as tais patterns) com cores diferenciadas para distinguir o que se passa nesse período do horário com uma cor diferente, geralmente rosa. Ora julgo que se trata de uma cor para o horário em que está aberto e outra para aquele em que a (companhia?) está fechada.

Me veio à cabeça. Acho que usaram a palavra "calendars" errado - como sinônimo de "agendas, folhetos, guias de turismo", ou coisa parecida. Isso deve ser inglês da Turquia. E devem estar falando de "igrejas, museos, biblioteca" etc. Ainda assim devia-se traduzir como

Understanding the structure of calendars
A calendar consists of one or more time intervals, and the values associated with each interval. A group of time intervals may define a pattern, which is then repeated.
Every calendar consists of one row in the Calendar table and one or more rows in the Calendar Data table. The former names the calendar and specifies its type or purpose.
Most calendars define a pattern of time buckets, such as 16 hours open and 8 hours closed, then repeat that pattern.
