some ideas..
I work for a leading transport & logistics firm and whenever I see Warenbeschaffung or Warenvorbereitung, I immediately think of warehouse management systems....
I think here they are saying that on demand they will handle the procurement and preparation (for dispatch) of the particular goods. "Preparation" then refers to anything from order picking and packing to kitting, labelling etc. etc.
Naturally "Warenmanagement" is more than just "inventory control".
Basically what they are talking about is "logistics"

Comment: "Thanks to all of you, but as it had nothing to do with SAP, CMJ's answer fitted best what the client wanted to express."

ERP / inventory management / materials management
All three are acceptable, in my order of preference.
ERP = enterprise resource planning
ERP = enterprise resource planning

: Sorry for the disagree, but each term means something different and IMHO your confidence level is too high

goods management
Why not? Why search for fandangled expressions when there's the good old word "goods"?

goods management
one option.

merchandise management
I suspect Waren means merchandise in this context (I've done a lot of work on SAP's IS-R retail solution - Warenwirtschaft). My confidence level would be higher if I had more context.

BTW:
ERP is the blanket term for systems that can help you manage everything from logistics to financials processes, including HR
Inventory management is \"Bestandsführung\", and is more related to warehousing and supply chain processes
Materials management is \"Materialwirtschaft\"

Merchandise management covers the entire supply chain, from procurement to dispatch.

If you want to play it safe, you could use \"supply chain management\", although that might be a bit broad in this context.

: used to work in-house for SAP's IS-R solution - Jeff is right

: in logistics nobody would ever use the term "merchandise" in such cases. I even ran it by an expert just to confirm and he agreed - re: "expert": my point is that SAP is something specific and I don't think that is the subject here

then your "expert" has never heard of SAP...; ADD: if this is a retailing context, which the whole "Waren" theme supports, then merchandise is widespread and appropriate

2 hrs
commodity management
...another possibility.
