on the side...the medical terms always used are "medical imaging"; "diagnostic imaging"; "molecular imaging"; "nuclear medicine imaging"...etc.

Well, in some pages, cinematography has been translated as فیلم‌برداری. In medical websites, تصویربرداری seems to be a translation for imaging. (http://fa.wikipedia.org/wiki/تصویربرداری_پزشکی).

According to the Wikipedia explanation

تصویرسازی would be "illustration/illustrating" and
in doing a Google search on تصویربرداری I would say that this means "cinematography"

I would go for the first option. Imaging is commonly translated as تصویربرداری. Interestingly, in this context, it will mean 'filming'. I don't think تصویرسازی and نگارسازی will convey the meaning.

Yes, I saw that site while I was Googling...even there, however, it is clear that they regard photography as a sub-set of imaging.

I guess the problem is whether it is better to invent a new word that no one knows or use a word that is close and everyone knows, but not exact.

I agree with you on the difference between imaging and photography, but in the links I have found, fashion imaging and fashion photography seem to be used interchangeably. The following link is an example:

There are a lot of examples on the difference between image and photo...I think one of the best is: all photos are images, but not all images are photos.

Also, images can be mental, but photos can't.

So, fashion imaging covers much more than just fashion photography.

تصویرسازی/نگارسازی مد is odd and I have never heard this in Persian. I think imaging here means photography.

this would be "fashion photography"...if you Google "image and photograph" you will see a lot of discussion on the difference...I also thought maybe we could use تصویرسازی but I saw this where it means "illustration" http://fa.wikipedia.org/wiki/تصویرسازی
