En informatique, le terme Fabric est synonyme de "matrice". Dans un ensemble qualifié de Fabric, tout point peut communiquer directement avec tout autre point l'ensemble. Si on schématise ces liaisons directes, celles-ci font penser à un métier à tisser où les fils s'entrecroisent dans la fabrication d'une étoffe, d'où le nom de Fabric ("tissu" en anglais)."
