In diesem Zusammenhang ist mir der Begriff Hardware nicht geläufig. Gibt es hier einen Fachausdruck?

Hier wird 'hardware' jedenfalls in diesem Zusammenhang verwendet:
Quite often there are symptoms of aching, cold sensitivity and tenderness which are related to the hardware. If these symptoms warrant it the hardware (metal plates, rods, pins and screws) can be removed.

Oftmals werden die Knochenbruchstücke mit Fremdmaterial wie z. B. Schrauben, Platten, Nägel (z. B. Marknägel im Knochenmarkraum) oder Draht in der richtigen Position aneinander befestigt.

Ich denke zwar, dass in diesem Kontext klar ist, dass sich "Fremdmaterial" auf Metallteile bezieht, aber eventuell kannst du wie in den Referenzen noch Beispiele nennen - und auch ein frohes Neues :-)
