Ho visto che viene chiamato con nomi diversi ma in sostanza è questo.

Il mio consiglio e' quello di cominciare "nel piccolo"/con una porzione piu' piccola"/"con una quantita' minore specialmente con ingredienti quali aglio, zenzero...
Il senso di 'on the small end': in parte, una porzione/fetta, ma adattando il testo direi con una quantita' minore o qualcosa di simile.
