When the pistons are in an outer dead center the combustion products are removed, and the cylinder is scavenged with fresh air through the exhaust outlets. Before the scavenging is over, the low-pressure pump injects the fuel into the cylinder. The pistons move towards each other, and the fuel mixture enters the combustion chamber. When the pistons are in the inner dead center, the spark plug ignites the air-fuel mixture, and working stroke with effective power start. It is at this stroke that the motor torque is generated. When the pistons are in the lowest dead center, the exhaust gases are released at the outer dead center, and a new operation cycle starts.
