\"masochist\" of course is \"masoquista\"
When using the hyphen between the two adjectives, the ending quite often changes to \"o\" so \"spasto\" comes from \"spastic\"
Note Oxford Dictionary of \"spastic\"
spastic1 / \"sp&stIk / adj
a (Med) espástico
b (incompetent, pathetic) (sl) tarado (fam)
With the informal nature of the text, the slang term \"tarado\" would be more appropriate, in my opinion.
Mike :)
just for context
As Michael noted, "spasto" comes from "spastic" (or "spaz" in slang), which is used to refer to someone who is prone to uncoordinated behavior, but can also be a despective comment as in "tarado" above.
It would be hard to keep the original play on words, but I thought the explanation might help.
Here's some "academic" research:
http://mrwordman.home.att.net/NGSD.html
A SPAZ is someone who is chronically uncoordinated, the sort of person who bumps into doors and trips over cracks, and drops things. The word derivation is obvious, it's just a contraction of "spastic". We used to call these people "accident prone", the sort of person who sets out to change a light bulb and winds up in the hospital with a broken leg and multiple contusions. It's easy to see why some people confuse NERD and SPAZ, as some nerds are a bit uncoordinated and clumsy, partly because they spend so little time working on their physical skills, and also because they are so oblivious to the world, so focussed on their obsession. But a NERD is not necessarily a SPAZ, nor a SPAZ a NERD. Get it straight.
One might call someone a Spazzy Nerd. Yes, one can combine pairs of these words to communicate multiple meanings. A Spazzy Nerd is a nerd who can't type because he keeps hitting the wrong keys, so he buys a voice input device and then electrocutes himself trying to install it. A Geeky Nerd is a nerd who also cleans his ears in public. A Geeky Spaz is tragic.
