Es una expresión muy típica en televisión. Adelante de las cámaras están los actores, los periodistas, etc., son las figuras famosas cuyos rostros conocemos. "Detrás de las cámaras" están los camarógrafos, los directores, los luminitos, es decir, todos aquellos que trabajan para que salga al aire un programa de televisión pero que nosotros, como espectadores, no conocemos. Esta personalidad lo que hizo fue ir detrás de las cámaras, es decir adoptó un papel que no se vé. Fíjate en el contexto, tal vez más adelante te diga qué hizo específicamente.
