English term

slain them outright

English to Spanish Art/Literary Religion Commentary on the Book of Proverbs (19th century)
Christians are furnished with such strength from their Redeemer that they are said to be bold as lions; and by the courage of faith the saints have sometimes stopped the mouths of lions, or slain them outright.

Peer comment(s):

agree Refugio : I agree, it sounds like a combination of realism and metaphor (to stop their mouths or slay them can mean to shut them up, the lions of persecution, or eliminate them altogether)
