Dear Colleagues, it's from "The Old Curiosity Shop"
After a moment's reflection, Mr Swiveller determined to forego his responsible duty of setting her right, and to suffer her to talk on; as it was evident that her tongue was loosened by the purl, and her opportunities for conversation were not so frequent as to render a momentary check of little consequence.
Thank you!

In other words, Mr Swiveller decided not to cut in and correct what the woman said because he was aware that the woman did not often have the opportunity to talk with people, and that she would probably feel particularly hurt by the criticism. (She would not see this as an event of little importance, whereas a person who spends a lot of time in conversation probably would.) He also noticed that she had become talkative only after having had too much Purl to drink.
