French term
servante
French to English
Tech/Engineering
Construction / Civil Engineering
Reply to invitation to tender for construction, engineering and maintenance contract.
Context: A list of shared equipment available to technicians for "means of access and support". "Servante" occurs in a list, following "escabeau, échelle, chariots".
I know there's such a thing as a "slave unit", but that doesn't sound right here.
Thanks in advance for suggestions.

support unit, trestle
While in workshop situations a "servante" can indeed be a tool trolley, as in the dining room it can be a cutlery trolley, this need not always be the case, and the other elements in the list suggest it is not here.
servante - Support fixe ou à rouleaux, qui sert à soutenir de longues pièces de menuiserie ou de serrurerie, pendant l'ouvrage, au niveau d'un établi, d'une scie à ruban, d'une forge, etc.

In the days when I misspent my youth in an aluminium joinery, we called it a trestle.

Note from asker:
Thank you, Bourth. Yes, the list does include "supports", so I guess you may be right here. |

roller cabinet
This could be a roller cabinet as opposed to the cart mentioned in your list. From the context you have provided, I think that it is logical to have a unit to hold various tools/equipment. It also sounds nicer than a "slave unit".
