French term

séquestrer de manière chiffrée

French to English Tech/Engineering IT (Information Technology) Encryption, escrow
Hello,

I know that "séquestrer" is "to place in escrow", and "de manière chiffrée" means something along the lies of "with encryption", but can anyone suggest a good way to put these two ideas together? I found "escrowed encryption" but not "encrypted escrow" which would be more true to the French.

Here is the full sentence, from a user guide on key recovery software:

Un espace client est un domaine logique proposant un service, auquel sont associées des entités signataires (DS) chargées de séquestrer de manière chiffrée les bi-clés générées.

Thanks for you help!

Very interesting indeed. I am not sure what term is most appropriate here. It is about a specific product developed by a very specialized company. I do not think we are talking about "emergency purposes" only... I appreciate your insights. TBC.
Neil Coffey Nov 29, 2011:
"escrow" not common Usually in software engineering, "escrow" is used to refer to entrusted storage only used for emergency purposes.

In cryptography, it's more usual to talk about simply "holding" a key, or being its "custodian".
Denise Trevellyan Nov 29, 2011:
Does 'séquestrer' necessarily have the meaning of 'place in escrow' here? Could it be more along the lines of 'store securely', 'segregate' or 'safeguard'?

provide an encrypted store for

There are various ways of saying this that get the idea across, e.g.

"provide an encrypted store for the generated key pair"
"hold the generated key pair in encrypted storage"
"act as custodians for the generated key pair, holding it in an encrypted store"

to safely store the encrypted generated key couples

just a suggestion!

disagree Neil Coffey : No, it's not the key pair that is intrinsically encrypted, but rather the key store in which it is held.
