Discussion

Amy Grieve (asker) Nov 20, 2005:
The contract relates to France. This is the only mention of the law, so I cannot be certain as to its content, but I believe it is something to do with copyright.
DocteurPC Nov 20, 2005:
la loi du 3 juillet 85, c'est la loi de quel pays? c'est une loi sur les droits d'auteurs?
Amy Grieve (asker) Nov 20, 2005:
DROITS VOISINS - COPIE PRIVEE
DocteurPC Nov 20, 2005:
Agree with Dusty - at least the sentence before and the one after, as a minimum - otherwise it can be so many things.
Tony M Nov 20, 2005:
might this be referring to the negative of the film --- in most cases, a valuable asset? Or could it be the deficit on the film, or at least, the negative side of the balance sheet (profit/loss / assets/liabilities account)? A bit more context would help

Selected

(100% ) of the negative of the film

based on the additional information, and comments from Dusty :
I broke it down this way,
Le concedant déclare
représenter
100%
de part de négatif
sur le film."
It would mean that the "concédant" owns the (private copy of) film as well as 100% of the negative of the film.
It happens that someone owns a film (or a photo/many photos)but not the negative - since the negative is normally used (not so much any more) for printing additional copies, it is worth a lot.
Peer comment(s):

agree Tom Walker (X) : This has been stewing in my mind for a while, and you've described it the best :-D

agree Tony M : It might be better to say "a 100% share of the negative"
