This really is the last question!!:
This is the title of a section of the article I am translating. Any ideas of how to put this in English. Here is the following paragraph:
"l’époque de la création de la FIFPro, le ballon rebondissait un peu moins haut, les footballeurs couraient un peu moins vite, les défenses – y compris leurs avocats – défendaient un peu moins fort et seul Michel Platini, dans sa trajectoire majestueuse, perçait déjà sous les traits d’un gamin de Jœuf. Anonyme. Le prodige n’avait que dix ans, mais bottait déjà dans un ballon fait à la fois d’utopie et de rêves inavoués".
I know titles depend a great deal though on the meaning of the whole article so I expect I can only answer this one on my own.
Very open to suggestions though.

Platini : from obvious choice to urgent need
Adding a couple of words makes it smoother somehow. Assuming "choice" and "need" are relevant to the context!

Just an idea that almost rhymes... :)

Platini, naturally but now...
I suspect that this means that Platini is (and has always been) an obvious choice as successor to Johanssen (sp?) at the head of UEFA, but that he is now needed urgently and not in X months' or years' time.
It might be better to ignore the French and concoct an English title from what the article actually says.

As Charlie says, the "but now..." bit needs to be changed.

How about
Platini: prominent on the field, and in the boardroom
Platini: the grass roots star urgently needed at the top of the tree
Platini: will the golden feet be a diamond head?

Charlie Bavington
: With your explanation, and final comment. Should not be overlooked that Platini was also "une évidence" as a player. Only reservation is I first interpreted your headline answer as if the "but now..." was expressing doubt, not urgency.

Thanks, Charlie. I see your point re "but now...". Something better required!

Thanks, Vicky. Yes, I'm sure I'd rewrite the headline if it were my translation.

: How about a simple "Platini: the obvious immediate choice"

Thanks, Kalyani. I think the French conveys a bit more but without having the entire article, we can't be sure what that is.
