A suggestion.
"Crash" rather than "crumple" because their is a "crumple zone" behind the bumper.

developed a test protocol to assess the comparative crashworthiness of cars based upon non-statutory European test procedures for frontal, side and pedestrian impacts. The test programme involved purchasing new cars, crash testing and publishing the results in vehicle groups. The first group to be tested was super...http://www.roads.dft.gov.uk/vehicle/standards/0102/02.htm

obtained from crush measurements
Bumper Cover Rebound, The ‘Air-Gap’ Problem
After a crash test, the rubber bumper covers on some newer vehicles are rebounding back to their pre-crash shape while the underlying vehicle structure remains crushed. This creates an ‘air-gap’ between the bumper cover and the underlying vehicle structure. Correct measurement procedure would require the removal of this ‘air-gap’ prior to taking the damage measurement. The test facility at Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is following this procedure. Crush measurements are made while pushing the rubber bumper cover inward until a solid structure is contacted.
