I guess in English we would say "diversion", but is there a more precise term?

Oxbow bend (or lake)
Explanation:
Hello,

this is another name for the meanders in a river.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxbow_lake

The word "oxbow" can also refer to a U-shaped bend in a river or stream, whether or not it is cut off from the main stream.

'Oxbow lake' would obviously be if it were totally cut off from the main river, but I see that's not the case here.
