ok, I don't know much about cars... the cursory research I did shows that, in general, brake horsepower is higher than the overall engine horsepower. But I'm not sure how to phrase this-- and readers of this magazine would already know this, right? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

I see how you're having difficulty with this sentence, it's hard to find the right word to represent "Mehrfach" without sounding awkward. Maybe something like this would work:
