I got the cue from what you have stated in your question: "Company XY has been enlisted to put the company in question up for sale."

in affiliation with

"Affiliation" is a good word for a cooperation or a partnership in a business deal.

Since company XY has been enlisted to perform a service, affiliation is a fitting term (see definition below).
Example sentence:

An affiliation is a close connection or association with another entity, usually as a subordinate.

with the assistance of...

...since XY appears not to own the company involved, but is stepping in as an intermediary.
Peer comment(s):

agree Richard Benham : Yes, this is a possibility. I thought about it, but decided it was putting a bit of a gloss on it. Still, it's doubtless a good description of what's actually happening.

It's one of those cases where you're really not absolutely sure until someone puts it in plain English! Thanks, and Seasons Greetings!
agree TonyTK : This is swell, too.

Does your context suggest that XY were playing only a subsidiary role in the sale ('assistance', 'involvement') or that the matter was put in their hands because of their special expertise?
Peer comment(s):

agree TonyTK : "handled by" is just dandy if it suits the context.
